How We Rate Games

Every SafeBlox rating is built on structured research, not guesswork. Here's exactly how we evaluate each game — and why you can trust the results.

The 6 Safety Dimensions

Every game is scored across six dimensions. Each is rated Low, Medium, or High risk based on documented evidence — not opinion.

💬 Chat Safety

Evaluates open text chat, voice chat, and proximity chat with strangers. Considers whether chat is moderated, filterable, or disabled by default.

👤 Stranger Danger

Assesses how easily an unknown adult could initiate prolonged private interaction with a child — including server size, DM mechanics, and friend requests.

🎮 Content Maturity

Reviews in-game themes, imagery, and roleplay. Considers Roblox's own age rating alongside community-reported content and observed gameplay.

🔒 Data Collection

Reviews each developer's data practices, third-party analytics integrations, and behavioral tracking beyond Roblox's platform baseline.

💸 Spending Pressure

Evaluates in-game monetization — whether Robux is required to progress, loot boxes are used, and how aggressively purchases are promoted to players.

🛡️ Parental Control Effectiveness

Assesses how much Roblox's built-in parental controls actually reduce the game's risks — and flags games where platform controls fall short.

Our Research Process

Each game goes through the same structured process before receiving a rating.

  1. Direct gameplay observation
    Each rated game is played or observed firsthand to capture real in-game behavior, not just what developers claim.
  2. Platform documentation review
    We review Roblox's official age ratings, developer disclosures, and Terms of Service for each game.
  3. Privacy policy analysis
    Developer and platform privacy documentation is reviewed for data collection practices and third-party sharing.
  4. Cross-reference with trusted sources
    Ratings are cross-checked against Common Sense Media, parent community reports, and educator feedback.
  5. News & legal review
    We monitor AG lawsuits, COPPA enforcement actions, and cybersecurity research that may affect a game's risk profile.
  6. Ongoing review
    Games are revisited regularly — Roblox experiences update frequently and risks can change quickly.

Our Sources

Overall Risk Score

Each dimension is weighted equally. A game's overall score is determined by the spread of dimension ratings — with content maturity treated as a potential override.

✅ Low Risk Majority of dimensions score Low. Suitable for most ages with basic parental settings.
⚠️ Medium Risk Mixed scores. Parental guidance recommended — review specific areas of concern.
🔴 High Risk One or more dimensions score High, or content maturity is severe. Not recommended for young children.
